If the person you are sending the file to doesn't need to edit the document it, you could always convert it to pdf. Mac OS X has a built in pdf writer (no need for extra software). Go to File>Print, click on the PDF button and select Save as PDF. It will then convert exactly what you have in your document into .pdf, which is readable on any computer.

When you share or send a document, to be sure that your document will show the right font go to Tools>Options>click the Save tab and check the Embed True Type Fonts box and the Embed characters in use only box. In this way, when you save, Word embeds in your file the characters you used to compose it (if they are True Type).

The person you are sending the file to must have the same font installed.
