because that's the year that the earth twisted on it's axis and ran right by Pluto, and none of the scientists noticed until it was too late because they were busy staring at Uranus

I wasn't scared but I was certainly curious. The reason everyone was nervous is because the thought was that the computers that basically run everything now, stores, banks, gas stations, etc would malfunction due to the fact that they would have to be able to switch from 1999 to 2000. It was thought that the computers would not be able to do it but there was no way of finding out until that day. Utter baloney when you think about it. You know they had a bandaid for that way before the time hit, but you know people tend to freak out anyway. As well as the local computer systems malfunctioning it was also thought that the governmental computers would go down as well, leaving us vulnerable for attacks and no way to defend ourselves.

No I was in my friends garage making out. We didn't even have a da*mn clock that year.

People didn't think the world would end, it would just be another depression like in the 1930's . They thought that becasue the computer programming wasn't the best yet so the companies assumed the computer's would get confused and reset themselves back to 0000. it was stupid, but that was the fear.

It was just all liberal media hype, people need something to freak out about. It's kindof like global warming if people look back into the '80s they would see that the very same "scientists" that purposed global warming, also said "global cooling" was happening, and they got as many peopl that are following golbal warming to follow that.
Peolple need something to be afraid of, simple.
I wasn't freaked i was only ten i didn't know (or didn't care) what was going on.

no, they thought that because it would be 2000 ('00) they thought computers would malfunction because the '00 could be like any year with 00 in it so they thought computers would go bzzzzzzzerooooowoooooah! trying to "compute" the year..
