Just go to your library. They always have music there to check out and to take home.

They don't care what you do with the disc, just as long as you return it in time.

My understanding is that it is legal, at least in Canada. A couple of years ago it went to the Canadian courts and the end result was that the judge said downloading music was no different than copying a page from a book in the library and that although some may think it is immoral, as long as it is just for your own personnal use and not for sale, it is perfectly legal. I haven't heard anything further on it so I am assuming that there has been no change.

You could try:
www.ez-tracks.com/popularsong.html

You just sign up and you are given 1 free song, if you download the mysearch toolbar then you get another 25 free songs.
I think you can download other things and get more free songs.
It says it's legal but there are a lot of pop ups and you can't always find the songs you want.

There aren't many good places to find legal free mp3s, free mp3s are generally illegal.

Hope this helps

You can get free trials of many online legal music sites including Napster,E music, MSN, Yahoo and music match. Also, you can get 5 free napster downloads with a Napster memory card. Anything that is 100% free for life is definitely illegal. A few clues to look for are "Unlimited downloads of billions of files", "Provided by a network of millions of users" and "Software downloads (other than music downloading software) also included for one fee for life".

Don't use Limewire, unless you want to steal music. Try www.legaltorrents.com or http://music.download.com/
