Before my daughter was born, I decided I wanted to make a special baby book for her. Traditional baby books bore me and I lack the artistic ability to "scrapbook." Therefore I combined my computer skills with my unique sense of humor and created something completely different. Anyway, friends and family encouraged me to try to create and then sell personalized books. I didn't know if there is a market for such a thing. And I didn't know if people would even pay for something so personal. I would appreciate any input on the subject.

I wanted to thank everyone for all of the great input you gave me. I am definitely inspired to take the take step. I am going to try and post my ideas on a web site over the weekend and see where it goes from there. But please contact me if you think you might be interested in a book of your own and I can try and provide you with more details. By the way, this may come as a shocker, while many of you have incorrectly assumed I am a mom, it turns out that I am actually a proud stay at home dad.

I realized that writing these things down were near to impossible in my sons baby book. I was either to tired, or was rushing to do something or would completely forget to write it down lol.

I don't see how some mothers actually make them myself. I have entries in my sons with a round about date on things lol. I don't really remember the date he took his 1st steps but I can remember the 1st time he peed on someone lol.

I think that writing down milestones are great but really most of the times you can't remember unless you have the book right there when it happens. I Think your idea is great. Because like I said most mothers can't remember when these things happen. They remember what it was but not the date. But the funny things stay in our memories because they were funny.

I think that it would have a good market myself. Considering that most times you are so busy with your child you don't have the time to write down everything that you want to. It would also be nice if you included some extra sheets that they can write on.

It annoys me completely when you have a little box to write in and you want to write more and you have no place to put it. The baby book I have for my son is the presious moments one and on things like 1st birthday it has a box there with 5 lines to write down everything that happened and who came over and what presents were given out.

Anyway I think that your idea is great. I think all mothers do something to personalize there baby books in there own way. I tend to draw things on the edges because you can't really do much to them unless you make your own but most parents have no time to sit down and make their own or they just don't know how or where to start.

I think it is a good idea and good luck to you.
:)

A really great way to find out if people like your book is to try to sell one on Ebay. You'll find there are a lot of scrapbookers there but I've seen that people like the unique. Especially if it looks well made and professional. There are tons of same old same old. Different approaches to this art gets peoples attention. You can tell by how may hits and watches you get. Try researching this under Premade Scrapbook pages in All Categories then check out "BTDL" design group. They are awesome. I'd love to join them. Then search under "highest priced". You will be amazed at what people are paying for this. But the work is beautiful. Good luck. =) Scraphappy

No, I would not... I love a good blanket, but $42 is way too much... I purchased a really nice, soft one, for only $10; why would I pay more? And, in those baby/toddler/kid magazines, you can get good blankets---with personalization---for half that price, including shipping... I'd spend my money on more important things... For the price you're charging, I'd expect it to be a luxurious comforter in MY size! (They don't even charge that much on photo blankets, and those are awesome!) Not to be rude, but... good luck with that. *edit* Checked out the site... Those blankets aren't worth that much... Also, I think it's a bad idea to personalize things that belong to children or babies, that strangers may see.

I just got married, and a lot of the photographers were trying to sell personallized digital scrapbooks....this is great for people who don't scrapbook for one reason or another. In the flip sense if you can make a digital scrapbook/babybook for people they would deffintly buy them. It's a hot market int he wedding area, I'd go for it!

That's a brilliant idea!

Do you realize how much money first time parents spend on things like that??? You could rack up on them alone!

I myself would love to have something like that for my kids when I start my family.

People love personalized things for their children. They arleady have places that make the personalized blankets and pillows and other what-nots.

So I say go for it. Make sure you can make them available on the web too. So I can get mine!!!

Wish ya the best!

I personally like to make my own baby book, I do scrap books and such for her, but someone else might like. But the only one that can really personalize it, is the mother herself.

I would think folks would be interested in something like that. My friend gave me the "Inappropriate Baby Book." It was hysterical - with pages for things like the first poop, first puke, first fart, etc.

A fun and personalized book would really be neat.
