An ultimatum means
that you, the person giving the ultimatum,
are giving someone only two options:
1- They do Exactly as you say
or
2- Else!
That else could mean you never see them again, or whatever horrible thing.
Most people hate them, but sometimes they're so necessary.

People are not able to make other people suffer for eternity, but no ultimatums are not a part of love. Unless we are talking tough love in which the end goal is better than the current state (ie drug abuse and a parent making his child he loves go to treatment. ) This ultimatum is the ultimate love. But ultimatums such as "propose to me within three weeks" or "buy me a pair of concert tickets or else" do not contain love. You must look at the motive of the person giving the ultimatum to see which of the above two categories it fits into. Greed or ultimate love.

An ultimatum (Latin: the last one) is a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance. An ultimatum is generally the final demand in a series of requests. As such, the time allotted is usually short, and the request is understood not to be open to further negotiation.

Figure it out yourself or else!
An ultimatum is when your are given the option to comply with the request or else you will get punished in some way. Good examples are when a girl says to her boyfrined that she will leave him if he doesn't propose marriage in the next few weeks, or when the US threatened to invade Afghanistan if they didn't turn over Bin Laden.
