I'm in eighth grade, and can't think of a good research topic. I would like to do it on a person...but I can't think of anything!
I normally do my projects on Anastasia Romanov and Cleopatra, so I would like to put a new spin on my essay.

Well it looks like you have done some of the great Heroines of the world, if you want to continue with that theme you could try Joan of Arc, Susan B Anthony, Harriet Tubman to name a few, if you would like something completely diffrent perhaps you should look to one of the great "villians" such as Adolf Hitler, Genghis Kahn, Vladimir Teppes ( Dracula ), or General Custer. Of course you might just find that these "villians" had their own perceptions of their lives and deeds in times when what they did was considered acceptable. Well, find something that there is alot of available resources about. If you cannot find the info, it makes it much tougher. How about someone you admire in the here and now? Like MLK's wife or Madeline Albright? Or whoever YOU admire. A champoin of women's rights would be a great choice. Or someone who fights for animals rights? Good luck

Like others have said here, simply try looking at today's headlines and pick one. Go from there. Usually you can get a lot of information on controversial topics like abortion, gay and lesbian rights, political candidates, etc. Once you pick a topic, try to be specific in that topic. For instance, don't just talk about all the people who've announced they'll run for President in 2008. Choose one -- like Obama -- and run with that.

Ooh! Can it be a current events-related thing? Personally, I find the situation with young children diagnosed with bi-polar disorder (and treated with anti-psychotic drugs--See recent death of Rebecca Riley in MA as a catalyst) interesting, though obviously tragic in the case of Rebecca. I don't know if I am for or against such diagnoses of young children, but I do think it would be interesting to learn more.

Take a look at one of the potiential presidential candidates for 2008. Those are a lot of fun to to plus it will give you some extra points because its a current event :)
