Say you have about 20 tabs, and each of those 20 tabs has been to 50 webpages, all in a line. That means that the hard disk has 1000 URLs and their position to remember. Is that so freaking hard?

I think I tried once but it only saved whatever webpages were on top at the moment.

Tools, Options, Main, under When Firefox starts, select:

Show my windows and tabs from last time

Edit -- I just tried it, and it seemed to work fine, with Firefox Version 2.0.0.1. I only had four tabs, not 20, and each tab had been to maybe between 5 and 20 URLs, not 50, but from what I have seen it's doing what you described as what you wanted.

By default firefox insists on closing all of its tabs before exiting... which is really annoying, I agree.

The only way I've found to be able to restart my computer while retaining which websites I was visiting is to hard close firefox. Firefox apparently saves the data just as long as it isn't exited properly.

Just close firefox by pressing ctrl+alt+delete, clicking the applications tab (if it's not already open), clicking on firefox, and clicking end task. If you have firefox to confirm upon closing multiple tabs, windows will come back telling you that firefox isn't responding and ask you whether you want to end the process, losing all unsaved data. Click that yes, you do... don't worry, firefox saves all the stuff.

When you open firefox again, it'll say something about the last session expiring unexpectedly, and ask you if you want to restore it. Click restore, and all of your tabs will come back.

The same will happen if you just restart your computer while firefox is running. I know it sounds like a leap of faith, but it works all the time on my computer. I'd say try it first, but you're already in this predicament so I guess it's all you have unless someone knows a better way.

Sounds like you need to write a plugin to manage your browsing style. I know I've been accused of having a lot of tabs open but wanting to open 1000 URLs seems a bit excessive. Can I ask why you need to do that?
