if my child's father is in jail in the state of Maryland or DC? If so how would I receive any money if he is not making any?

You need to file.
If he dies in prison or anywhere els for that matter your children could recieve monthly payments from social security.
do it now!!!

You can file a child support order but you will not receive any money until he gets out of jail and can work and make money. But if there is a child support order then his payments just add up until he pays. The payments will continue to add up if he does not pay.

Well yes, you still file. And while I am not up to date on child support laws in Maryland or DC I can tell you that a judgment will be passed that he has to pay "X" ammount to you from any income made while incarcerated and once he is out he will have to pay the full ammount of court orderd support.

You can file, you won't get the money now, but it will require him to pay retroactive once he's out and able to work. Also you should because in the case of his death, your child would get his back support from any insurance money or benefits that the father leaves at the time of his death.

Yes you can file your child or children deserve to have the money they need for them to be taken care of.
