Yes, you can, if you are using a broadband (DSL or cable) connection. Sharing a dial-up is possible, but much more complicated. Do realize that you are sharing the connection. So if one computer is streaming video or downloading games, you may sap a low-bandwith connection dry.
You will need a router/switch combination. The router will convert the public Internet connection into a private network connection. The switch provides you with places to plug your home computers into. Switches are typically 4, 8, 18, 32 ports. (one port for each computer). Router/switch device range in price from $20 to $200 depending on the complexity. IMO, Linksys is the way to go.
You can also consider a wireless router/switch combo. This allows you to have upto 32 wireless networked devices (my 2 laptops, server, workstation and TiVo) all connected to my home network. Wireless routers are a bit more expensive initially, but infintely more expandable. Distance from the wireless router is key. Metal framing in walls, water pipes and other structures weaken the low-power signal coming off the device. I needed to invest in a stronger antenea for one workstation due to the distance from my wireless router/switch. Last, make sure you configure security measures (WEP, WPA, MAC Address limits) on your wireless router, unless you want to become the new free wireless hotspot.
Each computer will need a network adapter (USB, or internal to your computer) to access the router/switch. If you do not choose a wired solution, you will also need to invest in costly CAT-5 network wiring (usually about $2/foot).

Buy a (wireless) router (costs around USD$30 for a decent one) and some CAT6 cables or wireless network cards to install onto the child computers that are trying to get connection to your main computer. If you don't know what a Router is just imagine it as something that cuts your internet by 4 minimum and distributes the service to computers that are connected to the router...
Make sure you set a password to the router too. Just follow the CD that comes with the router... Hope that helps.

nicely for one ingredient i do no longer see it as Gates vs. GM yet I see it as Ford vs GM in that Ford while he wanted to make money put in each and all of the robots on his production line and now has different technologies, the computing device, to boot. that's usually while somebody desires to earn greater money than they have already got that keeps human beings out of paintings. technologies has that is sturdy factors to boot as undesirable. i'm unsure if that equals out nevertheless considering the fact that there is too lots blazing and blasting and tormenting and following to boot as too many bored technologies human beings entering into places they should not be and stealing assistance, spinning it and conserving the international on facet. truthfully i'm petrified of #8 because of the fact I stay in a close-by the place there is a great number of water. i'd could use one in each of those ingredient-a-ma-jiggers and smack my front window to get out of my automobile if I landed in a lake or in twister or hurricane water. Plus those computerized domicile windows can seize a individual's long hair and rip off their hair and you will prefer a great number of stitched in the emergency room. despite the fact that i know technologies continually asks me "do you quite need to do this" any time i prefer some thing executed on the computing device regardless of the undeniable fact that that is super disconcerting because of the fact i became into pronounced working with attorneys in that in case you're able to ask them a query two times only inquiring for affirmation they brissle or get offended or assist you to recognize off and you ought to get fired so my reaction to my computing device asking me "do you quite need to do this" is in a screaming tone I respond "I advantageous as H do". grrr. All i know is that there is a automobile maker accessible insisting on making a automobile for the ignorant of force. So possibly technologies has reached its limits.
