Is it possible to upgrade to a different video card on a laptop or am i screwed?

It would depend on whether the the video card is integrated (on the motherboard), or it's a stand-alone card. If it's a stand-alone card, then there's a slight possiblity that it could be upgraded. But here's the problem: The upgraded card that you put it may not be compatible with the Basic Input/Output Settings of your system. The best bet is that you consult with your notebook manufacturer and gather as much information you can about the type of video card.

It is not possible to upgrade laptop video cards unless you have a very specialized machine. Time for a new machine if you're looking to play the newest games (or run Vista).

If I were you I would get the DVD drive issue worked out before I worried about spending any more money on that machine.

But, it depends on the laptop you have. A very few upper end laptops are capable of this type of upgrade, but more likely than not you will not be able to do it. My suggestion would be to contact the manufacturer to find out about your particular laptop, AFTER you get the DVD drive problem fixed, LOL.

usually they are integrated into the mother board and its practicaly impossible to upgrade but some let you upgrade them but those type are usually gaming laptops so it really depends on what kind of brand you have
