how do you set up a fostex mr-8 mkII?

The manual wouldn't be a bad start.

But from what I can say from a vague knowledge about these things, you'll need to plug in your mics to XLR jacks (or outboard preamps to the line ins). Guitars go into the instrument ins. Also the power cord helps.
