There is no animal that is better to dissect than any of the rest, it depends upon what you are looking to learn. There is something to be learned from anything.

Dissection is usually the process of disassembling and observing something to determine its internal structure and as an aid to discerning the function and relationships of its components.

If you just want to hack something apart to see inside it that would be called disassembling or dismembering. There should always be an objective to what you are dissecting, if there is not, it is best that you not attempt to hack into something.

The fetal pig... I learned sooooo much. And I believe dissection is still neccessary as computer and even 3-D images so not give you the three dimensional representations of how the organs are anatomically situated for their purpose. I have also visited BodyWorlds.... although I had the knowledge of anatomy, this show gave me a whole new appreciation

very, very cool!

what do you want to learn. Frogs are used in basic biology because things are pretty easy to see. Fetal pigs are mammals so they are more like us. Cats are nice because you can dissect out all the muscles. I would also say that from easiest dissection to more advanced it would be frog, fetal pig then cat.

I guess their would be better animals to dissect, that are more anatomically similar to humans, but if you dissect anything bigger, than the animal rights activists will come and try to dissect you!!

We had to use cats in anatomy class.

The pig is called, "horizontal man" because the organ arrangement is similar to a human when they're dissected.

I do not believe that dissection is necessary in modern society. With computers we can show everything of the insides of animals without killing them

My favorite was a 4 ft nurse shark. Very cool! She even had 3 unborn pups.

Try frogs because they are pretty small plus they don't have that much organs

The nurse shark is interesting, but they STINK! Pigs and cats are pretty interesting also.
