I just installed a large projection screen at my indoor go kart track and was considering playing DVD videos on it Friday and Saturday nights. Does anyone see any problems with that. The track is open to the public but I wouldn't charge them anything to watch the movie...just money to go for a kart ride. I've asked a few people and they seemed to think it would be OK but that I shouldn't advertise it. Would it be ok to have a "PLAYING THIS WEEKEND" board in the showroom ???

Don't do it. It's not worth a potential copyright infringement lawsuit. If you insist on breaking the law, don't advertise in any way, not even on a billboard. It doesn't matter whether the movie is free or not. You can buy movies rights for public viewing, but they cost a lot ($300+ per viewing). Public viewing TV is not so expensive: for example, see http://www.directv.com/buy/pdf/public_pkgs_and_rates.pdf. It should be fine, but you must make sure that it's clear that there's no charge on the movies, because that could cause a legal issue. My only concern would be that some might misconstrue the fact that people are paying for a go-kart ride and can see a movie as you showing the movie for profit, even though you aren't.

It's illegal to show any DVD in public. The warning is on every DVD.
