"Menage à trois" is not just a threesome, even if it includes sex. It is a relationship between 3 people, could be 2 guys and one girls, two girls and one guy, or all 3 of the same sex.

"Menage à trois" means that they all live together, how they split up their time is up to them. A friend of mine in Amsterdam had a mother who was living in a "Menage à trois" with two guys. Funny thing, my friend never asked who was his biological father.
