I help a pack of hounds hunt

I am a Vet Tech student so I'll be helping sick, injured, animals as a career. I have never purchased an animal through a breeder. Every single one of my animals has been rescued from a pound. I plan (when I have room and time) to be a foster parent for dogs and cats who are at shelters and need a home inbetween homes. I also help the cattle, chicken, and hog populations by eating meat.

I just adopted an abused white Boxer. She was skinny, not vaccinated, overbred, & had a heavy chain on her. I've had her a week, & she's gaining weight, received her shots & got a clear bill of health on her exam. She's getting spayed Tuesday. White Boxers are usually killed because the coat color is undesirable, or overbred by misinformed breeders who think white Boxers are rare (they're not). This is why we need to demand a change from the Kennel Clubs in America who perpetuate the myth that only purebreds are worthy dogs, and any purebred with faults should be killed, or in the least, not treated the same as their colored kin. My Boxer has the same personality as any other dog, and is sweet and loving and just as worthy as a fawn or brindle Boxer would be. Although my contribution is small, it is just as important as someone donating hundreds of dollars to the ASPCA or PETA, and I know where my money is personally going when I adopt a pet on my own.

Wow Drum that is so true. People who give up eating meat, wearing leather, using any animal products completely could never justify keeping animals just for companionship that eat other animals. Its so obvious, this is being run by the same nuts that threw blood on fur.

I am against cruelty, but I am also against animal activism.

I do not understand the logic of being against cruelty to animals when cruelty to humans is still tolerated and openly practiced on many fronts. It seems pointless and hypocritical to 'free' animals (into non-native habitats) when so many humans are imprisioned or enslaved illegally.

It seems dumb to waste time protesting animal feed factories when humans are going hungry, to protest animal abuse when children are being abused in greater numbers, to worry about people wearing fur when so many people don't have warm cloths to start with.

Big problems don't go away because we spend time and effort on peripheral issues.

Having said that, I work to help people appreciate otherwise unloved animals, to care for animals better and more humanely, etc. outside of what I do to help other people.

I live in Chicago and report any neighbors that leave their dog out for more than 15 minutes during the winter, and I don't like watching animal rescues on TV because I don't like to see anything in that kind of situation.

My spouse and I have repeatedly donated dog and cat food to the local SPCA and The HOPE foundation which is a low cost spay and neuter clinic. We have also donated rawhide chews and other toys.
We have also rounded up feral cats to get them spayed and neutered.
We have both adopted strays from the SPCA and we took in 2 strays that found us.

Besides making regular donations to the local Humane Society, twice I have had ferral cats leave a litter in my yard or garage, and I have taken them to the Humane Society and had them spayed/neutered and given shots, then brought back to my house and allowed to live in my garage and yard.

I run a non-profit origination dog rescue! It's called LFA (Love For Animals) rescue. We have saved so many lives, and will continue to help sick, injured, and homeless animals! Also, I'm a vegetarian.
