We are gathering supplies to send to troops overseas. We would like to consider our African American soldiers, and send things necessary to their hygeine/beauty needs, ie: conditioner, do-rags. Any help would be greatly appreciated; No disrespect intended! :o)

Things that can be used: soft brushes, mild perms like Cream of Nature, neutralizing shampoos, and conditioners. All the same brand. Oil sheens, or moisturizing lotion for hair. Hair scarfs. These are the types of things that may help.

Very interesting topic. I had a chance to watch Toddlers & Tiaras on TLC about a month ago. All I can say is that I found it absolutely disgusting. Watching these little girls with 10 pounds of make-up on their little baby faces while prancing around in these skimpy outfits makes me want to vomit. What is even worse are the parents especially the mothers who pressure their girls into this freak show. They all say that they are instilling a healthy sense of competition into their children. But as I was watching the show I would see the girls cry if they didn't win first place. I am sure they go home thinking that they are not pretty enough to win. From this stems insecurity, anorexia and other negative side effects. All I can say is that I would NEVER enter my baby girl into a pageant. I would rather have her join a basketball team. At least she will learn healthy sportsmanship, team work and other valuable skills without wearing a bikini and bleached blonde extensions.

If you go to an area that has a higher African-American population; you should be able to find stores that sell products mainly for African-American hair and hygiene. I know that do-rags are also sold at CVS stores (some anyway) and at most Sally stores.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. Are you asking us to tell you where to buy them? They can be found in beauty stores in black neighborhoods.
And of course this question is going to get disrespectful comments because that's what Yahoo Answers is about.

You know they have a commissary over there. And the soldiers do get paid. The people that I know over there (and I only know a couple) haven't mentioned having a problem finding the basics. In fact, my friend sends ME stuff from Iraq. Portable DVD player, digital camera, quilts, rugs, says its all really cheap.
Send them the latest CD's, DVD's, posters, that kind of stuff.

I'm not sure what kind of question you're asking. Are you asking for products or what we recommend you buy?

Oh my goodness. Black woman use the same type of hygiene products as other women. Wow. And every black woman does not wear do-rags. Don't insult them please. The only thing that is different between black woman and other races might be their hair texture, and even then each woman's needs are different. Thanks for trying to help but geez!
