I recently acquired a computer with a Gigabite mb...GA-7ZMM rev.1.2. It has an AMD Athlon cpu. OS is windows ME.
The system was running fine untill it was accidently shut down from the switch on back of the power supply. ( I think, my kid was on it) Now, all it does when I turn it on is start the cpu fan. One time the cd tray was able to open, now it doesn't even do that. Any help would be appreciated.

I also would tend to think this is a power supply issue. After checking all cables as mentioned in an earlier answer, try switching out the power supply and see if that cures the problem.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you may want to try clearing the CMOS. Usually there is a jumper to do this on the motherboard, but you can also do it by removing the battery for a minute or so and then replacing it. If that fails to correct it, you may have another motherboard issue.

Hi,
Sounds like a power supply fault, when you switch on does the "Beep" at you if it does check for loose cables and if it does not then change the power supply unit (only about £12). One more thing, when you do get it going reformat the Hard Drive and install XP, "ME" sucks if you want to use it for the Internet. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a power issue, check all cable connections on motherboard, hard drive, floppy etc.
Otherwise, get another power supply from like comp usa, make sure it has enough watts to support your system and the same cabeling.

- replace the power supply
- check all power connections
- check all chassis connections - the wires from the computer's power and other switches to pins on the motherboard

if this does not remedy the problem then it is likely the motherboard itself is fried. RIP

check everything, make sure it is plugged into the machine and a power source, if that doesn't work, sounds like you fried either the motherboard or the harddrive. -
