He's had it for a couple of weeks now, he's 7wks. And it's just around his moth. Little red bumps, and some of them look white in the middle. It's on his chin above his upper lip, and cheeks next to his mouth. Could it be from breastfeeding and rubbing on my skin with milk irritating it? Some days look better than others....why? Any advice will help. Thanks!!!!!

Yip, it's normal. All breastfed babies go through it. Give it a few more weeks, it will go away on its own as soon as you stop being "hormonal". No action is required on your part. Just relax, and enjoy your little wonder! :)

My son's acne cleared up when he was about 3 months old, and has not returned since.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

My neice had this same problem when she was born and it was all over her face, some with a whitehead in the middle. I don't think there is a lot you can do, since there skin is sooo new and tender you don't want to put anything we would use on them. My sister had to just let it heal itself. My neice is almost seven now and believe it or not, she has had a few small pimples as a child. The only thing my sister said she tried was natural aloe and coco butter to keep them from scarring if the baby scratched them. Maybe try a day or two of using a bottle for your breat milk when you feed him and if it gets better, it may just be the irritation of the milk sitting on his face. Good luck!
Congrats on your baby, enjoy every moment!!!

Baby acne is VERY common. Some kids only get a little - like your son, others get it from the middle of their chests, up over the tops of their heads, and down their backs. It's caused by his body adjusting to being outside your womb and not getting your hormones or anything directly.

Keep it clean, keep it dry. Don't use any lotion or cream on it. Use a mild soap - like Dove - to wash his face. If you ignore it long enough, it will go away. It might take until he's 4-6 months old to go away completely, but it will. (And it doesn't hurt or bother him at all.)

That happens to many babies. My son was born with it, he is three monthes now and still gets them every once in a while. It's not from breastfeeding because my son gets formula. Just make sure you don't pick at them. He will scar if you do.

My son had it too up until he was two months old. It goes away on its own. There really isn't anything that you could do on your part. If you bring it up to your pediatrician, he may give you a cream for his face which mine did. But even then, I never used the cream and it went away on its own.

My little sister had it for a couple weeks, white dots all over her nose. They cleared up naturally. It was a funny since my baby sister has more acne than her teenage sister. Haha. :)
