Some years ago, while at work, I wanted a decent cup of tea. Not tea from a tiny styrofoam cup, but a half a pot of tea in a single mug. I went at lunch to the Borders next to the office, and I looked for the perfect mug. It was close to Halloween, but all I saw were mugs with flowers and poetry on them.

Now, don't get me wrong, flower and poetry each are fine in the right time and place. One my desk, at work, is neither of the right time nor place. I don't need to be emasculated daily any more than I already am by management.

But there was this one mug. A mug large enough for a kiddie-pool sized cup of tea. A black mug with white spiderwebs all over the outside. On the inside, hanging from a line attached to the rim, is a black widow spider. Now that was dark enough for my engineer's soul to appreciate.

It has been my work mug ever since...
