Take a knife and with the end of it strike the jar lid three or four times all the way around the jar. Like at 12 oclock, then 3 oclock then 6 and 9. Then try the jar again it should open as this should have released the trapped air making it hard to open.

depends on the jar type. what is it made out of what is in it? use rubber dishwashing glove as aid to grip and turn lid. run hot water over lid if it is metal. heat will cause the metal to expand and make the lid easier to take off. if you are not using the jar again you can dent the metal lid with a butter knife. this will break the seal if it has never been opened before and make the lid easier to take off
ask a neighbor for help

flip the jar upside down and give it one good whack on the counter then try to open it.
wrap some rubber bands around the lid to give you leverage.
whack the lid with a butterknife's "butt" end (not the blade) a few times and try to open it.
if the lid is metal, run it under a hot tap and then open it. the heat will cause the metal to expand and make opening it easier.
good luck!

Genitally tap the lid all the way around with the handle of a butter knife and try to screw it off. If it doesn't work, tap it again on the side of the lid all the way around. That should do it.

This really works. Get a thick elastic band, wrap it around the lid, even once, and turn the lid. I used this method a hundred times and it always works.
