While I understand there are numerous variables that could affect this figure, I'm trying to get a ballpark idea for what the typical range might be for a family of four.

If you were relocated, or you relocate others, your personal experience stories would be very valuable.

Thanks.

Solly,

This is a function of the cost of the move AND the cost of living in the new location. You'll want to consider these and any other relevant factors if you end up moving.

We recently did a study of this exact thing for a client moving from Texas to California, (from a low Cost of Living (COL) state to a high COL state). The cost of the average home here in Texas is $180,000, but the same house in CA was more than $1 Million, health care, transportation, taxes, groceries and utilities were more expensive also. Only things that were less were property tax rates and insurance and this was due to CA laws capping these.

This guy was moving at the insistance of his current employer and we were able to provide him data to justify a 38% comp increase plus the cost of moving, which I beleive amounted to $12,000 based on distance and contents.

It may benefit you to get professional assistance if a move becomes a reality.

Good Luck,
Dana B.

2500 is what I got last year. They generally do not take into consideration the size of your family or any other such special circimstance.

It depends on how much they want YOU, as oposed to someone else. They might take into account the distance you are moving or the change in cost of living but most do not.

It IS ok to ask the employer what they allow for relocation allowance.

No more than $4k for mid level new employees (usually only because they can't find them locally). That covers airfare, moving of furniture and car within US, plus first week of hotels and car rental.

The range for senior managers and executives could be $10-30k or even much more, depending on whether the company absorbs the costs of selling the old house and buying the new one.

Give him a polite warning. Say that he has numerous absences which unacceptable. Next time hes absent from work the only time it will be ok and excused is if he has a doctors excuse.
