You can't fake progress for long. The moon missions provided information about orbital dynamics and the composition and characteristics of the moon, information that still holds true today.
There are campaigns to discredit the missions based on "anomalies" in the images sent back, but these are based on false assumptions or complete misunderstandings about technology or physical science.
Considerable factors in the missions were the surprises and discoveries made, some large, some small. The way dust moves in low gravity off the wheels of the lunar rover, the fact that it's easier to kangaroo-hop than run on the moon, these are things that a hoaxer wouldn't want to get wrong. It would become too obviously wrong later. (Remember, they believed the Soviets were right behind them.) But how can you fake a discovery? You don't know what to devise that won't be exposed later.
Consider the effort required to stage a hoax operation, from launch to capsule recovery. Witnesses saw a gigantic Saturn V rocket launched into space. They saw a scorched space capsule with astronauts inside it parachuting out of the sky. And in between, a complicated schedule of staged performances (including scripted "bloopers") had to be presented at the appropriate moments? What a waste of time, materials and money! Why not just go to the moon?
In the age of greenscreen and Photoshop, any image can be manipulated. But they didn't have such things in 1969. Back then, photo manipulation was done with airbrushes and literal "cut out and paste on" techniques, and was easily detectable. Film effects were done with crude "matte-shots", superimpositions on blanked out areas of the negative. Videotape was in its infancy, using 6-foot diameter reels spinning at insane speeds to capture a half hour of video. A splice could destroy a tape. Faking would look fake.
The PR cost of an exposed fake would far outweigh any immediate benefit. They would not have taken that risk. It happened.
Incidentally, there was a B-movie about the subject called "Capricorn 1", mildly entertaining if you run across it.

We most certainly went to the Moon. 12 American men in 6 separate missions landed on the Moon between 1969 and 1972. There are lots of arguments that the hoax believers try to use to convince themselves and others that we never went to the Moon, but all their arguments can be easily explained (see http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/tv/foxapollo.html for more info).
There was a huge space race at the time, it was just part of the cold war between the US and the soviets. They beat us into space with Sputnik in 1957, but we put the first men (and so far the only men) on the Moon. They monitored all our activities, just as we monitored all their activities. If we had faked the Moon landings, they would have known about it and called us on it!
Our government is TERRIBLE at covering things up. They couldn't keep the whole watergate thing secret. How could they possibly keep a faked moon-landing secret? The sheer number of people who worked on the Apollo project over the years - it's impossible that they were all simultaneously deceived by a small number of government men, or that the thousands of people were all in on the secret.

Those hoax ideas are just crazy. The Apollo Moon landings were one of the most public, best covered and documented events ever. It would be easier to fake the super bowl.

They did land on the moon. I saw a show called "Man on the Moon" (if I remember correctly that was the name). It was really important back then but today it doesn't matter. Why would the government spend millions of dollars to fake something like that. If it were true that they faked it, the world would already know.

I think you were hoaxed. It is true, they landed there. The space race was more real back in the 60's. Nowadays, it does not have the same importance and interest as it did back in the day.

It is NOT true. Some conspiracy theorists in the 1970s first said this. The Moon landing was real.

Not only did we NOT land on the moon, but ELVIS is still alive, JFK was never assasinated, ALIENS are walking among us and working beside us, and oh yeah, the SOUTH won the CIVIL WAR!
Little known facts.
Happy now?

**You** were hoaxed. Whoever told you that the moon landings were a hoax has been sniffing too many exhaust fumes from the black helicopters they claim are doing low-level flybys over their backyard.

You can hear anything because people will say it no matter what it may be. We did go to the moon that is a fact. But by all means believe what you want to belive.

Only idiots believe this. If the U.S government faked it, then the Soviet Union would have loved to embarrass the U.S. in front of the entire world by proving that NASA made it all up, and they would have done so if it were true.
