It could be a definate possiblity as most store brand products contain formaldehyde (a cancer causing chemical) as a cheap preservative - to find out more check out www.ewg.org and click on their Skin Deep link - has lots of valuable information. Formaldehyde is commonly listed as quarternium-15 on lots of products.

The deodorant itself doesn't cause the cancer. When you apply deodorant immediately after you shave the deodorant can get into your pores and cause a build up which may cause painful cysts that may need to be surgical removed.Maybe those could turn into cancer. Hopefully that helps

it is said that there *might* be a link between the rising use of deodorant and the rise in breast cancer, because of the aluminum in them. it has not been proven tho. if you are really concerned, try looking for a brand that doesn't have it in it. also on days where you will not be doing much, and it isn't hot outside, you can always use a powder, like baby powder, instead. it wont work though if you end up doing lots of exercise or getting hot. and you cant really wear dark shirts with it.

Yes, I heard that too.... But it has to do with the deodorant blocking the pores in the armpits and those toxins settling in the breasts.... But i think with a good daily wash of your armpits and an antipersperant u have nothing to worry about. .. .

There'll be so many lawsuits from cancer patients if this was true. . .

Yes, I have heard this but I think it was shown not to be true. Although anytime you mess with your body's natural functions you have to wonder what are the consequences? Sweating is a very important body function and when you rub some chemical mixture under your arms everyday for years there is some possibility it could be doing you harm.

I went to www.snopes.com , which is a very reliable website for checking the status of rumors and urban legends. I used their search box to search the site for "deodorant" and this was the first result:

According to this article, one study did show a possible link, but other doctors are skeptical. See the article for details.

Jeez. What's next? I thought the "living near power lines" thing and the cell phone scare were stupid enough, and now this? I do wish formal logic and statistical analysis were required courses for everyone. Terribly boring, but they'd give people an idea of the ways these scares get started and blown out of proportion.

Absolutely not. Cancer is caused by abnormal cells and antiperspirants don't cause it. I've had breast cancer.
