The thing ist that even in school girls tend to have all notes at the same level, while boys have outstanding merits in one subject and are horrible bad ones others. There is also an oscillation from year to year in boy's school-archivements, while girls are more steadily on quite the same level. The reason is in my opinion, that men always have to fight for survival and so they have more to concentrate on their strenghts leaving aside their weaknesses, just to save ressources to concentrate them to reach the goal with efficience. Women meanwhile have to hold Society socially together. They have to care about all the little things which are as such petty but neglected as a whole they ruin families and societies like shopping, upbringing of children, doing the Household, gathering informations about practical things, building and keeping social contacts. Wasn't the title of Arundhati Roy's book "The god of the small things"? A woman has to master all these things and because of this, she can't excell in one thing making her outstanding. Exceptions are proving the rule, of course. When a man is a famous chef, he dedicate his whole life to cooking, developing his senses and rafinesses to find out for example the latest zest in making a superb ruby-fish-soup. The most women don't go that deep, because they have to perfectionize multi-tasking in a broad gamut of fields most men can't even imagine. If then a woman excells in one field, she hasn't to prove that she is equal to men (mostly even better) only but she has to fight also the envy of other women, who want to keep a certain social equality standard preventing society-members from breaking out of stereotypes of living. Many women don't want stress to prove all the time that they are excellent and outstanding. That's where their mediocracy comes from.

Just the opposite, havent you noticed? Women will date mediocre-looking men much more often than the opposite. Men can do a mediocre job and stay hired, women will be accused of being incompetant. If a man's house is a mess, people just think 'oh well, he's a bachelor'. If a woman's house is a mess, they think she's a slob.

How long have you been living on this planet?

I think it is easier for a woman to get away with being mediocre. When a woman excels she is given extra attention for example "a woman lawyer" or a "woman doctor" a man is just a lawyer or a doctor. A woman gets extra notariety for doing the same thing because shes a woman. Just being a good person is "good enough" for a woman but for a man there should be more than that. (but men often fail and our respect has been hurt)

Of course it is easier for a woman to be mediocre, its us women who judge a man who works a low paying job, but we dont judge a woman who works a low paying job in the same way, some how we direct our notice to some other good traits she has. With a man, you know we label them losers, so lets not pretend like we dont.

It really depends. If the mediocre woman is hot, then yes, it is easier for her. If the mediocre woman is not hot, then it is harder for her than it is for a mediocre man.

Nobody should settle for mediocrity. While humans can never reach perfection, we should at least strive for excellence. I don't know why anybody would want to try to get away with just being mediocre. That's just lazyness.

In what way? In bed, at their job, socially? I know pretty women get a lot of perks and sometimes not much is expected of them, but as a gender? I don't think so. I do think our society as a whole suffers from the acceptance of mediocrity

In what context? Mediocre at what? I don't know that gender has a great effect on acceptance of mediocrity, but the situation and location may well play a part.

NO.

Walk around the mall --- spectacular women with mediocre guys. Weird. Sure women know how to shop 4 a purse, but they don't understand how men can be accessories.

I BLAME MATEL!!! ---> EVIL MATEL <--- evil, Evil, EVIL

Sure they make playing with Barbie fun, great accesories, but Ken kinda sucked, so we didn't play with him --- when he's the missing link on how a man and women go together, and since Evil Matel didn't keep up with the trend of pairing man and women, well, we're left in this disaster fashion crisis!!!

Not for work - even if a woman is BETTER than the man she often gets paid less. But in looks, possibly. I think women are just more attractive than men (and I'm female and not gay.) Just curves are aesthetically pleasing in a way a penis isnt :P And women tend to be more proportionate, not as many realllly tall lanky girls as lanky men.
