Are you sure this friend is not depressed? A sure sign of depression is pushing away friends and family and going into seclusion. If that may be the case, I recommend finding out from others if they are having the same experience with this friend. If they are, it is more important than ever to just "be there." If your friend is depressed, s/he will have nothing to give you right now, but it's times like this when friendships are tested.
BUT...if this person is soley ignoring you...don't waste the energy!!

Try sending a letter, handwritten or email. Make sure that you say everything that you want and feel. Be open and honest. Be sure that you have said all that you want to make clear. If you don't you will have guilt about it You will feel better about the situation. Let them hold the animosity be the bigger person. You will feel better knowing that you made the effort. It is the fact that you tired.

you tell yourself that there will be something missing,
and that the subjective and objective world of a friend
will become neutral in your heart,
and if morphic resonance within the morphogenesis's fields
truly work then ye friend shall pick up these vibrations and
know that you have connected your breathing of thought
to his vibration of perception, and you both will compensate
this magical rope trick in the field of thought by your mutual
understanding of saying goodbye within your hearts ~

If they do not want to be contacted in person, or verbally, try sending a letter and saying it there.

if you can never contact that person, maybe you don't really have the chance. maybe you just have to find closure on your own.
