John Steinbeck's OF MICE AND MEN is a towering novel which foreshadowed Steinbeck's greatest novel, GRAPES OF WRATH. As the two principal characters in OF MICE AND MEN, George Milton and Lennie Small are portrayed as victims of forces beyond their control. They are like mice in the maze of life, and are frustrated at every turn as they struggle toward their goal of owning their own farm. Their goal conflicted with the realities of a world dominated by materialism and greed.
