My car is a 1986 Grand Marquis and the brakes are acting up. I have to push them to the floor to make the car stop at all. I replaced the fluid a few days ago because it was nearly out, let it bleed for a while, but now it's doing it again. I thought I noticed a leak at the bottom. Should I replace the fluid reservoir? Thoughts? Thanks! Do-it-yourself-ers are much appreciated.

If you noticed a leak, this is the cause of your problems. Where ever this leak is occurring is what you need to fix. If the leak is between the master cylinder and the resevoir, you may be able to get away with simply replacing the seals between the resevoir and the master cylinder instead of the fluid resevoir itself.

Typically the fluid resevoir does not go bad.

After replacing the seals, you'll have to bleed the brakes again.

Master cylinder with resevoir replacement from Autozone is only priced at $36. Cheap enough to probably replace the entire system.

first of all what color is the fluid that is leaking? if it is red then you probably need to replace your trans connector orings. if it is a dirty brown color then you probably need to replace your shift harness oring plugs. if problem continues to occur then you may need to take it to a shop, my recomendations would be the nearest ford/mercury/lincoln dealer.
