I'm considering purchase a firearm. However I would like to know legal issue. I've always hear people tell me if I shoot to stop or kill someone, always shoot twice.

So if I shoot someone twice. Will this be consider as murder or self defense?

Keep in mind I'm deaf so it's not like I'll be able to communication or hear people yell if anything happen.

Yeah... I know many place have some specific law for deaf such as polices cannot break into/raid known deaf resident's place without very good reason because it put everyone in danger.

Also polices has got in trouble or even fired for tackle a deaf person because they assume the deaf person was hearring person trying to run away.

However for this case, I really have no idea at all.

Interesting question

However, reasonableness of self defense is based on a "reasonable person" standard, not a "reasonable deaf person" standard

Buying a gun means accepting the responsiblity for killing another human being. You never draw a gun on another person to scare them, or to wound them. You have to be prepared to kill them.

Any police officer or firearms trainer will tell you to shoot for "the center od mass" and that means the chest. Shooting to wound is a fiction popular in 1950's cowboy movies.

The reason to shoot for the center of the target are many:

1) In the heat of the moment, adrenaline will cause your hands to shake (you're using two hands in a "Weaver" grip) and a center mass shot has more likelihood of hitting the target

2) a center mass shot is more likely to knock the victim down, or hurt him so bad he will fall down

3) from the "Weaver" grip position the chest is a natural target

Consider that a missed shot has the possibility of injuring the innocent (a .357 Magnum round can go right through a wood frame house) and you're more likely to miss a shot at an arm or a leg.

If you miss, the intended target can take the gun away from you, and that's a very bad thing.

So consider if you are willing to take a life, before you get a gun. Do you need it because of where you live? If you pull a gun, and you hesitate, you might as well not have it at all.

Consider martial arts/self devense classes instead.

Regarding firearm laws, you need to read carefully, your area's laws concerning owning or carrying firearms.

If you get one, practice often and be confident in using the weapon. If you are good enough shot, don't shoot an intruder in the chest, abdomen, or head. Shoot them in the legs.Why/ One or maybe two shots in the chest or abdomen may not stop them. TV shows most people drop after one shot. That is TV and is rarely the case unless it is a head shot. I have to say I'm not one that actually wants to kill someone unless they are a definite threat to my family. I would rather they go to prison and hopefully get help. Anyway, a couple of shots in the legs will bring the biggest and strongest down. Especially in the knee caps. This far less lethal and they will remember those shots every step for the rest of their life.

You have the right to use deadly force to protect yourself, a third person, or you home.

If you think your life is in danger of suffereing great bodily harm or death at the hands of another person, you may kill that person to protect yourself.

If you feel that someone else's life is in danger of suffering the same as above, you may use deadly for to protect that person.

If someone is attempting to, or is in your home, you may use deadly force to protect your home. No, they do not have to already be in the home. They do not have to directly be threatening you. You are not required to use equal force(meaning if they break in with a knife, you can't shoot them). If they are trying to kick in your front door, and you own a firearms that can shoot through the door, let them fly.

There is no rule about how many shots you fire. Now, most people just pull twice. But, if you are sure of your shot, pull the trigger, and the perp goes down, there is no need to fire another one. One shot, one kill is always best practice.
