thesaurus?

From the lists some have offered, it appears that a lot of people don't really know how to USE a thesaurus. Many of the words they found are simply words that are SOMEHOW related, but are NOT synonyms of "thesaurus"--that is, words that you could use as a SUBSTITUTE for the word thesaurus in at least some situations. (The entries in a typical thesaurus are NOT simple lists of synonyms, though synonyms are included in the lists, but rather topically related words.)

THESAURUS has two meanings, so there may be at least two possibilities.

1. A book of synonyms, often including related and contrasting words and antonyms.

synonym = "synonymicon" (or you might use a 'brand name', e.g., "look it up in your Roget's" just as you might use "Webster's" as a general term for dictionary)

2. A book of selected words or concepts, such as a specialized vocabulary of a particular field, as of medicine or music.

synonym: "lexicon"

This all assumes you want a ONE-word substitute. Another possibility is to use an expression that is essentially a definition, such as, "book of synonyms".

Go to Microsoft Word, type in Thesaurus, highlight it and click on tools then language then thesaurus and it will give you all the words. However, someone has already disclosed them to you in one of the answers on here. Good luck!!

There isn't one, as far as I know . Not all words have synonyms; for some things, only one word expresses, as a single word, exactly what is meant.
"Word-finder" is near, but it could just refer to one of those calculator-type things which help you to cheat at crosswords.
