I suspect an English/UK writer was involved. There are alot of Indians in England and perhaps they wanted to bring more awareness of that culture to the big screen in America. Personally, this is one of my favorite movies. It's not to be taken seriously!

They have used so many Indian references 'cause In india still arranged marraiges are common & SEX n LOVE is still a taboo in that country...
So, add a hint of sarcasm to laughter they have used too many indian names..
