I was wondering.... aren't there side-effects to using birthcontrol pills in place of condoms? You hear on commercials for birthcontrol pills that state a list of side-effects for the pill. Does anyone really care about the side-effects, or does everyone just want to avoid using condoms?

If you are a woman you do! There are many side effects that men aren't aware of (most don't care - we women have to take care of ourselves). You cannot smoke while on the pill, it can cause blood clots - pulminary embolisms. You gain weight as it messes with your hormones. Others are nausea, vomiting, bleeding between menstrual periods, and breast tenderness, changes in menstrual flow, breakthrough bleeding, spotting, missed periods, headache, weakness or tiredness, stomach pain or discomfort, trouble sleeping, dizziness, hot flashes, acne, nervousness, hair loss, decreased interest in sex, pelvic or joint pain, leg cramps or pain and swelling or redness at the injection point (for the shot).

You hear about the side effects for every medication that has an advertisement on the televison, and all the side effects sound awful.

Check out the actual percentage risks, however. Most of the side effects of birth control pills have to do with smoking, or with pre-existing medical conditions, not just with the pill.

That said, of course there are side effects. But there are benefits. In a relationship where both have tested free of disease, it makes using condoms unnecessary, and allows sometimes for more spontaneous interactions. For some women, it can be used to regulate menstrual cycles and make them less painful. For others, there's the convenience of being in control of their own birth control choices.

Condoms aren't for everyone, so it's a good thing there are alternatives. Just remember that only condoms have a chance of preventing transmission of STD's, and even that is still listed under the fine print as not 100% reliable.

Each woman will have different side effects depending on which form of hormonal birth control they're on. If the side effects of one type of pill are too much for them, they can try another type of pill until they find something that doesn't give them problems.

Birth control is great if you're in a monogamous relationship, but since it doesn't protect against HIV, STIs, or STDs, condoms should still be used if either partner hasn't been tested recently.

Pills also help regulate a girls cycle, but, because they contain hormones, also make them more mental when that time comes. There are alot of side effects but that is for a doctor to comprehend, not you. Most commonly the chicks get pudgier and moodier.

BTW, its not a replacement for condoms. They don't counteract STDs at all. So if you are with some random and she says that she is on the pill, use the rubber anyway.

Yes, there are side effects to using the birth control pills, but they vary in frequency and severity from pill to pill and person to person. Another big one is that if you're not using a condom and do not have a monogamous relationship, you put yourself at risk of STDs, which birth control pills do not protect you from.
