I have a 87 with a 2.3L, and it sounds to me like your catalytic converter or something else in your exhaust may be plugged. This could also be caused by a bad O2 sensor which may be making the engine run too rich.

If u are doing roundy rounds-Dognuts -or drifting - IT WILL ...or if the Engine is running 2 rich the same will happen !!!

sounds like the converter is plugged up and needs replacing, your exhaust is building up to much back pressure.
