I think the shop owners trying to pull a fast one tell them not to be tight.

No matter which side of your property the fence is on, if you stand at the middle point of the fence facing the fence, the part to your left is your responsibility. Thus if you and the adjacent property owner are standing across the fence from each other, looking at each other, you each are responsible for the fence to your respective left. The only time the is not applicable is if you want a fence but your neighbor doesn't, you cannot force them to pay for half of the fence they don't want. You must cover all of the cost in this situation. Possibly this was the case when the back fence was put in.

Check your deed over with your solicitor, if you still have problems ask them to write to the shop on your behalf.

Go with what the deed says because that's what a court of law would look at.

If for security purposes try your back first and then go sideways.
Also depending where you live, try the PBC fences that are great, clean great and look great.

i'd go to the person who sold you the house, and have them deal with the place behind you.

Get your solicitor to check and tell you.
