If you don't know where the file is stored, you can search for it with explorer: Start... Run... Explorer.

You could simply delete the file and empty the Recycle Bin, but someone with the proper software tools could recover the file if they wanted.

You can securely delete a file using "shredding" software. Google "free file shredder" and you will find plenty of options.

To eliminate the filename from the RUN history you will need to edit the registry. Start... Run... regedit. Find this key and delete the offending entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Software\
Microsoft\
Windows\
CurrentVersion\
Explorer\
RunMRU

find the location of the file from the run menu that you opened, then navigate there through "My Computer" and delete the file.

As for the search history, try going to your internet explorer tools and erasing your history and temporary files. If you're using XP that should purge your run history as well.

If you want to delete the file then creat a new user then go to the nwe user account then delete it from there.

If you want to delete the registry/history of opened files then in windows folder delete the files from (Recent) folder

You are done.

Items in the start/run box are saved in the registry.

They are under this key (remove spaces after the slashes).
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ RunMRU

Find the file and then highlight it then just a simple right mouse click and scroll down to delete, will do it.

This site should clear it up as well as the Recent Documents entries.
