I would make it a country-type story where things are simple and almost fictional. How she got to the small country school, walking? riding her bike? and what she encountered along the way. The friends she met and played with on the swings at recess. After school her chores when she got home, like feeding their baby chickens as two kittens followed her around the yard. Then setting the table for supper. Helping her mom with the dishes afterwards. Followed by the hour set aside every night for homework ,as her Dad read the newspaper, little brother on the floor playing with his tonka truck and mom doing needlepoint in her well lit chair. Ending with her in her pj's crawling under the quilt her grandma made her on her single bed. Simple and respectful. The good ole' days...no nintendo, no ipods, no cell phones, no plasma TV's. Manners with responsibilities.

I'm a fourth grade teacher and I see tons of things they're interested in. Right now, the girls are all into Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls from Disney Channel, not to forget High School Musical!! Clothes from Limited Too are also a big hit. They like to do their hair talk on the phone and socialize!! Gimp is also a big hit ( the plastic string that you weave together). Judy Blume's books are still a hit as is Alice Hoffman's Aquamarine and Indigo. The boys are all into video games, avatar, sports and reading. They like non fiction books as well as books from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Louis Sachar and Mike Lupica's Heat and Travel Team. They are also very good at creating powerpoint presentations and pic up on that stuff fast. Drake and Josh and The Suite Life of ??? are popular shows as well as Survivor and Deal or No Deal. Hope this helps

Believe to or not 4th graders are tired of reading about thier own lives in every way shape and form. They should have some history under their caps by now and most of them love it .I would keep it in their age group and make it on the edge, interstingn and include some real old time dangers also kids like the old trading system people used to use.

Well it depends on what they do which tells what they are interested in. I have 2 little brothers that r in the 4th grade and I can tell what they do they're interested in like they like going outside with their friends playing basketball or football and watching them on tv.I can also tell they're into video games and action figures of wrestlers on tv as well as cartoons. They're starting 2 developing a habit of calling they're friends on the phone and say they can handle everything they do by theirselves and talking 2 play with their big brothers and/or sisters. I HOPE THIS HELPS A LOT OR A LITTLE.

4th graders like vid games, sports, movies, chatting utter nonsense, being silly, some like to read, some like cartoons, some like animals.
last thing they like are homework and tests.
your story seems cute, but how abt keeping it more fun as in tootsie during the summer?
the beach, shopping, movies, hanging out w/ friends and so on do sound more appealing than homework and school.
