I own a mini now have had him for 4 yrs. and im crazy about him. They are very firery little creatures with lots of love. They are mostly for one person but can make a good family dog. they seem to attach to the person that gives them the most attention.they are very loyal and yes they are very stubborn and determined to hace their way, but there are ways to dis courage this behavior get books and read them. You will fall in love if you get one they are also very playful good car dogs. The back problems are mostly from jumping up and down from furniture mine is doing fine I bought him steps but he won't use them .Just watch and monitor his jumpimg from things . I've never had any weight issures with Butchy cause he runs it all off he's so full of energy i hace one of the smaller ones he's never been past 8lbs. but there are some that are bigger a mini shouldn't be over 12 lbs if he is he's not a mini there are people selling bigger dogs as mini's and they turn out to ber standard ask to see both parents. Good luck enjoy your dog. If you want to talk futher or have more questions ims me or email me. I'll be glad to answer yur questions.

We had 2 daschunds when I was growing up, not at the same time. The first was a standard, and she was a pretty good dog. She bit me once (I deserved it, but I was little and didn't really know better), and she chased one of my friends around the yard once. The second was a wild thing. She was extremely territorial and nasty toward any visitors she didn't know really well. We didn't even have a doorbell, and she'd flip out if one rang on TV. Of course what the dog is exposed to makes a huge difference in how it behaves. Both of these dogs were as stubborn as they come, and the first one was deaf, so that made it all the more interesting trying to communicate with her! They both lived to be 14 years old.
Both dogs were very loving toward our family though. You have to be careful to exercise them a lot because they get fat really easily, and it's hard on their backs.
My husband and I own a mixed breed that we adopted from friends of ours when they couldn't keep him anymore. He is a calm, sweet, patient dog, especially so since our 1-year old is crazy about him. I would never trust a daschund like I trust our dog (not that I trust him completely, because he IS still a dog!)
Basically, daschunds are neat dogs, but I wouldn't say they are the best for families with young kids who can antagonize the dog or be too rough with them.
I hope this is helpful.

I had minature daschsunds for awhile. They are stubborn creatures! They are also fiercely loyal and will defend their owners. They love to dig (the breed was originally bred to hunt badgers!). They are also prone to back problems, which can be helped by making sure they get a proper diet and are not overweight.

Do you mean Dachshunds? I have 2 of them. Mine are very loving and sweet dogs that crave love and attention. They like other animals and kids. Keep in mind they they can be very hard to housetrain.
