I'm certainly no expert on clowns, just the fact that I hate them.
Why do I hate them?
Lemme see....

As a child, my folks took me to the circus. I saw clowns for the first time. I didn't know what to make of them. They're all dressed up in silly clothes, got all this crazy paint on their faces, doing unexpected stuff with things that go BOOM. Not an ideal situation for a 5-year-old.

As I got older, I realized that clowns were people in disquise. Didn't make it more easier. Still hated 'em. As I got older still, I realized that clowns are taught that, surprise, some kids are terrified of them. So they back off and try not to frighten them. But some clowns become more aggressive in their, um, clowning.

TV and movies portray clowns as psychopaths and other socially disabled types. Clowns are the yang to the rest of society's neat and orderly ying.

I think Boris Karloff said it best when asked why he hates clowns, "It's because you see this painted smile on his face and you never know what's in a clown's heart."

I am terrified of clowns. Always feel that it may be because I am distrustful of someone portraying something they really are not. Hiding themselves behind a clown face. But the funny thing is is that Halloween constumes don't scare me. Just clowns.

Maybe when we were young we either saw a scary movie consisting of clowns or people would have made our mind and soul think that clowns are dangerous.

i think its a few things really, firstly the make up doesn't help, huge red nose and lips is not 'normal' they're kinda a 'freak' version of human beings! also i think its coz they make us uneasy, seeing a person who's happy all the time puts me on edge anyway, i just get the feelin they're gonna blow sometime soon, if that makes sense?? i'm scared of clowns even now and i'm nearly 24, i don't think it helped watching Stephen King's IT!!!!! ha ha

Because they read too much Batman comics. They think they are the Joker's victim or the Batman, tired and running from his evil pranks on Gotham city.

I have no idea. I'm terrified of clowns, never really fancied them. When I was seven I had a nightmare about waking up alone in an extremely dark room on the floor, and after a few seconds the light came on and a clown came out the shadows with a knife and razor sharp teeth and proceeded to stab me and eat me. When I woke up my side hurt where it stabbed me and my room was pitch black, I was terrified.
