I have been on and off the depo shot on and off for 6 years. I had no side effects. How ever if you ask any OB-GYN it's not a good idea to stay on it for a long period of time. The first time I was on it for 4 yrs. at the end I started to feel wierd about my body so I discontinued it. I'm currently now switching to an IUD Monday.

some of the side effect of the Depo shot are not so good. Some women have their period for almos a moth or more, u can also gain wieght, but it variates from one woman to another. Some don't bleed at all and loose weight other are always bleeding and get fat. U can't really know how it can affect u till u try it. Then u'll know if it works for u if u don't like it u can try something different.

I used depo-provera and I gained lots of weight and got very moody. I didn't even like being around myself let alone other people. Also if you plan on wanting to get pregnant anytime soon I wouldn't recommend this. I had a very hard time getting pregnant after being on this.

I am apparently one of few women this has happened to, but after about a year of using it, I noticed my hair started falling out! It happened in the shower one day and it was a small clump at the nape of my neck. I immediately called my OB/GYN and explained my experience....we switched my bc and after that all was well.
Let me remind you, though that I was a rare case, and it isn't the norm for people who take the Depo shot.
Take care, and I hope it works great for you. :)

My wife used it. Your periods stop (yay!) and it will take several months for them to come back, after you stop using it.
I am not sure about any long term effects. Just have regular checkups with your Gyn and report any symptoms or problems.
I wouldn't recommend using it for a long period of time.

In addition to the substantial weight gain, many women have frequent bleeding too. No recommendation here.

I would not recommend it. One of the side effects is increased chance of spotting and break through bleeding. I had spotting every day for the year I was on it. Instead of stopping my period it essentially became nonstop.

No I didn't care for it. I used it for a year and gain weight and it just seems unhealthy not having a period for a year. I am on the pill and love it.
