I want to connect my desktop's monitor to my laptop and use both simultaneously under Windows XP. I tried plugging the monitor into the VGA output on the laptop. It said "No signal input". Then I pressed Fn+F8 (for toggling displays). The image remained on the laptop, but the second laptop read "Signal input out of range". I pressed it again, the image disappeared from the laptop's own display, but the other display still read "Signal input out of range". The third time I pressed it it was back to image on laptop and "no signal input" on the second monitor.

I tried playing with the resolution for both displays, but all stayed the same.

Do you have any suggestions how to do it?

That is not the correct way to set up dual monitors so no matter what you try now it will not work. You need the proper connections and/or software to accomplish this. In Google I typed in "dual monitor laptop pc" and got information links on how to get your monitors to work.

On my own PC I set up dual monitors and it took me a while but I figured out exactly what to get by searching the internet. Before doing my own research I had visited several computer stores and all gave me the wrong information. I even called Dell (my PC maker) and they did the same, even sending the wrong part. So it may take you some time but it's well worth it. I love my dual monitors.
