Here's some advice from one of the best in Cairo, hopefully it'll help:
- Like the previous guy said, the key is to concentrate on the ball, just clear your mind and always think of the balls next move so you can be always a step ahead
- This tip can be understood only mentally, make sure your opponent is disturbed, listen carefully this means you should never allow him to think his at ease, don't give him time to think so he makes a rash and inaccurate decision to your favor, make him hopeless and without any options by surprising him, rushing, positionning well in compatibility with your DF etc...
- Instead of peakin behind to position my self well, I just rest the hand nearest to the post on it and slightly touch it (as if you're gonna push it to get momntum in the other direction) this is for just for 5 player team matches/small goals
- Like the 2nd tip, being a mastermind is a secret to being successful, you can train on this by having several guys that keep passing to each other trying to trick you and shoot suddenly (it's actually a famous simple game in here, contact me by email if you're intrested to know more), this is essential to know when to leave your goal and tackle the attacking player
- Some technical advice about positionning: rest your hand on the bar closest to you if the attacker is from the sides (as previously explainned) if the attacker is from the middle and there's a defender in front of him don't stand directly behind the DF, but SLIGHTLY to the side so you can observe the ball + be ready if the ST shoots it beside the DF
P.S. next time include if your team is 11 or 5 people
Best of Luck

1- always stay concentrated even when the ball is so far away on the other side of the pitch .
2- always expect that the player who have the ball will shoot it now . and dont pay attention to his legs . just look at the ball . you want the ball.
3- every few seconds sneak a look behind and to the sides . look at the woodwork and keep yourself postioned in the middle of the angle between the target and the ball .
4- put in your mind that you are a sweeper for your team . always stay focused and be ready to run forward anytime to catch or sweep a long ball or a through ball passing the defenders.
5- during corner kick . dont pay attention to the set pieces of the other team players because you're not a defender . just postion yourself midway between the 2 posts and few steps in front of your goal line and be ready to run in any direction to catch the ball . you only look at the ball.

Ok positioning first. Its relatively simple what im about to explain. Go to the middle of a goal take about three good size steps out for example I'm about 5' 11" and i end up about 8 feet from the goal give or take a foot or so depending on the people i play against. ok now draw an arch one goal post to the other with yourself being the farthest out point. the only time you step behind that line is a looping shot thats going to drop in at the very top or a PK (penalty kick) if anything you gonna want to go out farther into the field. now your 3 steps away from the goal and a guy is standing on the goalie line (the line where you can touch the ball with your hands) with a ball right up the middle. from the ball you should see a four sided pyramid to the corners of your goal. you now know every shot he can take. if he moves over towards the corner and in a little you should move with him. if your not sure on where to stand take your right hand and reach out like your trying to cover the top and bottom right side then the same with your left. you should be able to get your hands to cover the corners easily. thats your positioning for regular stuff. have a friend dribble the ball back and forth so you can practice staying on the arch.
On a corner kick you want to be a step or two back from the middle of the goal and probably a step outside your arch. if you even think "I could run up and grab that ball" while its in the air, DO IT! Its hard for you to draw a foul so knock people down if you have to to get to the ball. My coach once told me "think of the goal as your castle, your kingdom, no one gets into your kingdom!" Thats how you have to think, its your goal and your not letting anyone in! Keep in mind you have the absolute best view of the field, almost birds eye view so watch for things that will help your team. Your like the quarterback or the pitcher of soccer, if you fall apart your team very well might as well. Don't get down on yourself or your team if a goal is scored, its part of the game and the most you should do is offer constructive criticism thats not angry but more like friendly advice. And on PK's read the person not the ball. for example if there lined up to your right there gonna kick with there right foot probably to your right. they may try to trick you by looking at the left side but i normally take half a step to the right when i see that. REad the person then watch the ball and be ready.
Finally be agressive. if for some reason a forward breaks past your defenders and its one on one don't stay back and let him get an easy shot. No matter how good you are you ca't win that battle if the guy coming at you has half an iota of talent anywhere in him. as a goalie you hope he makes the mistake of letting the ball get just to far ahead of him. normally thats gonna happen about the time they enter the goalie box and thats when you charge out. Think of it as that pyramid again. when you charge out the margin for error from that forward becomes next to nothing, he has to make a perfect shot. just charging will normally save a goal but if you go out and have to slide heres how to so that you hopefully don't get the crap knocked out of you. look at a baseball slide then put your foot that would be curled down out. as you pass the ball more or less sprawled to protect the most area you want to bring your arms down and over to grab the ball and bring it into your chest. that way your face is mostly protected and you have about the best control of a ball you can have. remember if it bounces out you've gotta be ready to pounce on it. You have to be fearless, I've been kicked a couple times in the face and the pain goes away but the memories don't, I get kicked again just to save a goal and protect my kingdom.
Real quick i just wanna cover some warm up stuff. You;ve gotta be able to keep up with anyone on your team in either distance sprints or both. I can normally take everyone on spints and come about in the middle on longer runs. Work on your running and run a couple laps before games. stretch, stretch and more stretching. you might not have to run as much but goalie is much more physical that the other positions and much easier to pull muscles and hurt yourself I use some baseball arm stretches then i do butterflies, flamingoes, straight down and anything else i can think of. after that get a teamate or parent or friend or someone and a soccer ball. lay down like your gonna do crunches except without your hands behind your head. have the person throw the ball so that you have to do a crunch, catch the ball and on your way down throw it back. have them throw to the side so that you have to reach and stretch but not fall or dive. I reccomend doing that right after you run (which should be first) Aside from that try blocking shots from your knees then when you stnad up everything will be easier. also bounce a ball off the top of the goal and shuffle step side to side catching the ball and going. Thats about it.
