Depends on the length of the songs and the bit rate.

I use a sample rate of 160 kpbs and average 1.17 mbytes per minute of music. I've been able to store 440 to 445 songs on a 2 gb ipod.

Apple say 500 but as they all say, depending on the compression (quality) of the songs you put on as you could potentially put more than double if you try or far less than half if you go for very high quality.

Depends on the format (eg MP3) you use, but if you use the measure of 250 songs per GB, you won't be far out.
