Why does she ever need to see an GYN? Her regular family doc can handle all of her normal needs including pap smears and pelvic exams etc. I never see a GYN unless I am referred by my regular doc for special problems. Pap and pelivc is started when a girl turns 18 or when she becomes sexually active which ever comes first. Unless she has problems that her normal doc can't handle there is no reason she would ever need to see a GYN doc.

Hi-
Personally I would take my daughter to the gynecologist for the first time after she gets her menstrual. I think it's a good time for the sex talk, and ask her about anything else that's on her mind. Kids are never to young to be sexually active these days. Also you could call the gynecologist and ask what age they think is appropriate. Hope this helps.

I herd that when she starts her period is when she should go. BUT if shes not sexually active and shes healthy.. she can wait until shes 18. Thats what I did. Everything came out fine too.

If she's comfortable with going then any time is fine. They recommend 18 or sexually active, but if she is not shy about it then anytime after she starts menstruating would be appropriate.

She does not have to go once she starts her period. Wait until she is sexually active, until then there is no need for a PAP.
