A subpoena is a call to a courtroom.
The legal definition is "a writ commanding a designated person upon whom it has been served to appear (as in court or before a congressional committee) under a penalty (as a charge of contempt) for failure to comply ."
Hope this helps.

A subpoena is an order to appear in court. Failure to appear can cause you to be arrested. They'll put a bench warrant out for your arrest. That means the sheriff in your county or an officer from the court will come and get you!
