It's quite possible! You don't need to format and reload Windows.
You can remove this Trojan Horse by doing a regedit.
Go to "Start" and click on it. Go to "Run" and click on it. In the dialog box that appears, type in "regedit" and hit Enter. In the Registry Edit Panel that appears, go to Edit and click on it. In the drop down menu that appears, go to Find and click on it. In the dialog box that appears, type in the name of the Trojan Horse and backdoor virus like, for example, "conhook" and hit Enter. Select all the values that populate the right side of the panel and right click and delete all of them. Repeat this again doing Find Next. Once you get no results, you know that it's all gone.
Remember to disable System Restore while doing this so that you don't get a copy saved there.
Reboot and enable System Restore and you're home free!
All the best!
Cheers!

When ever problems like this occur, carryout system restore. Restore the PC to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. It is easier and mostly your problems will be solved.. If you want to know an effective procedure for system restore please visit the following site.

That is the best way. You might run an antvirus like nod32. If that doesn't work you have to reload. Windows is as vonerable as a hooker with her skirt up on a street corner. You can get a mac or run linux on your pc to avoid viruses.

That depends on your antivirus.
I recommend Avast! antivirus, and you should also get Spybot Search & Destroy, as well as Ad-Aware.
Between the 3 of those, you should get rid of it fairly quickly. If not, you need to talk to an IT professional to remove it manually.
