The Mets have a better chance than most teams. Now, lets put some myths to rest that all you guys are spouting. The BoSox are not the most improved team in baseball, that would be the Cubs (who still might not make the postseason). The BoSox will most likely return to the playoffs. Kansas City sucks and wouldn't be able to win in any division, you wasted a ton of money on Gil Meche for no good reason. St. Louis did nothing to improve their team and lost players that helped them win the weakest division in all of baseball. If St. Louis thinks they can somehow improve on a 83-78 record they are gravely mistaken. The NL West is the Dodgers' to lose, San Diego is a horrible team with absolutely no offense. Pitching will keep you in games, but it can't win them for you.
The Mets have the best and deepest batting order in the NL, their bullpen is still pretty formidable, their bench players are versatile and able to hit, but the starters remain a question mark.
Granted the Phillies have a better rotation, but it isn't that much better. Myers is the only sure thing. Cole Hamels is going into his sophomore season (fans better hope he doesn't have a sophomore slump). Moyer is 44 and allowed too many HR in Seattle, a pitcher's park, he is now in a hitter's park. Garcia needs good run production to win games, but he should be able to get that in Philly. Eaton's era has never finished below 4.08 and he lets too many men get on base.
The Mets have Glavine, an on-or-off Orlando, possibly John Maine, possibly a bunch of other guys. Maine and Perez have shown they can pitch, but you don't know if they will. There are veterans to pick from (Sele, Park) and there are rookies (Pelfrey, Humber). It's not a preferable situation, but until the season begins you cannot say they will be overwhelmingly good or bad.
Will the Mets win the WS? Maybe. Can they win the WS? Yes.

Mets fans are most-always ignorant to what their owner does... they build a winner and then, cut back and save. They've done this in the Wilpon Era time and time again. Right now, they are in Save Mode (but you know know it, until mid-season). They know the fans will come, and the advertisers are crazy over last year's ratings and resurrection in the post-Piazza era. However, they have a pitching staff that looks better on baseball cards than the mound. They will falter, and there will be no problems and no excuses -- everyone but their die-hards knows they will not beat the Phillies in 2007, and the Marlins may leap over them as well. The implosion of the Atlanta Braves was done on purpose, to lower the payroll for selling purposes - and that's done. How they lost Giles and LaRoche was embarassing. Next year, the Mets will lose Glavine and still have their retreads to go along with the Pedro "will he retire to save us money" nonsense, that will begin this September.

A lot depends on how much Pedro contributes this year and which young pitchers step up to contribute if Hernandez and Glavine regress with age. With the offense they have there is definately a shot but too many questions with the rotation for me to bet on it.

No, they're not even going to make the playoffs. Their pitching is much too suspect.
NL East:: Philadelphia
NL Central: Houston
NL West: LA or SD

no, they losttheir best pitcher and are relying on two 40 year olds. i think the red sox have a great chance. they improved their team more than anyone and shouldn't be nearly as delpeted with injuries as last year.

I just don't see it happening this year. After all, Pedro is out until midseason this season. He won't be fresh right away.

No. I wish the Royals were in the N.L. They would have a shot at it every year. N.L. is weak!
