I don't think there is any more prejudice in Northern Ireland than any other country. If you want to study there you should-you're right, it is a beautiful place.

There has just been a report that said that Northern Ireland was one of the most bigoted nations in Europe. I personally think that is a bit extreme and definitely not reflective of NI as a whole.
I am white and English and I moved here a couple of years ago and love it, though of course it's hardly the same as being Korean/Chinese/Black - but there could still be issues with being English! I think on the whole people here are lovely and very welcoming, but of course there are the loud ignorant few who would say otherwise. Having said that I am buying a house with my boyfriend who is from a Catholic town, and even we have to be a bit careful about where we live in Belfast as some areas would not be too welcoming of him/me.
I think if you avoid certain towns that are a little more insular or have a history of intolerance (I imagine you know what I mean), you'll be fine and love it.
It is a beautiful country - and has a lot going for it, and is getting better all the time - come and try it!
Good luck xx

Im english and i moved to Belfast in 1998, in the begin i did have a few problems(but it was more to being mixed race then english) but over the past few years i have had no problems what so ever and would recomend moving to belfast as it is a great place to live with a great night life and the people are SO friendly.I can make some recomendations to make your life easier for you(though i dont honestly believe you will encounter any problems) like live in a mixed area or middle class as most protests are in the working class areas and you will have mixed schools for your kids, go away for holidays in July are that is marching season and Belfast comes to a stand still during that month. On a whole i would say go for it and im sure you wont regret it, Good luck

No problem, the University area is lovely, there is lots and lots for kids to do, people love children, family life is very important in Belfast, I think you will enjoy living and studying there, only thing that is sure to happen, the kids will come back to mainland UK speaking with a wee Belfast accent. Accommodation is generally bigger and less expensive than the rest of the UK. You can drive to Dublin in a few hours.

The cities of Cork and Galway are probably the best,Glaway especially.Kilkenny is a nice place though may be alittle on the quiet side out of the summer tourist season.Watereford's come on a bit.Limerick's not the worst but i'd with one of the first two options. Asregards Dublin it's a good place to visit but living there might not always be easy what with the stressful lifestyle and all the expenses you'll incur

i am from belfast and of course you are very welcome, i am also a protestant, it is remarks like the idiot earlier there made that you should not listen to, if it makes me a bigot to be proud to be british then fine, but i am in no way a racist, or have a problem with any other colour or creed, i wish you the best in what you decide to do.

You'll be tolerated, but you should tread carefully when it comes to political beliefs.Your earlier posts indicate that you're not very bright and far from being clued in to the sensitivities of U.K. citizens who aren't English.Remember that even those right wing Protestant,pro-crown bigots will still consider you a foreigner and, while putting up with you if you don't open your mouth and offend anyone, are not going to welcome you with open arms.
