Call me crazy but I had an I.U.D inserted this past Valentine's Day. I am conflicted by all the different information I find about I.U.D's. So I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions I have.... I got the copper one.
1. When is it ok to Exercise again?
2. When should I expect the bleeding to stop?
3. When can I have sex?
4. When should I check the string for the first time and months after?
Thank you, also if you can think of something that is important to know that I didn't ask please include it in your response. Any information is appreciated.

I was told not to excersise for one week, the bleeding would be 3-4 days to a week. Not to put anything in the vaginia for 3 days to a week (includes sex, fingers, ect). I was told not to feel the string until after my first period.
I was told this by 2 different nurses at 2 different practices. See my confusion? I keep getting different answers.

1. You can exercise anytime that you want now. You were free to exercise from the day it was inserted.
2. Bleeding will last longer - that's up to your body. Usually periods will last a full 7 days. Some women spot for a time after insertion, others don't. Again, that's up to your body.
3. You can have sex starting from the day it was inserted, although many people don't like to have sex until they have stopped bleeding.
4. You can check the string whenever you want, most check at their appointment they have with their OB/GYN (usually about 6 months, unless there is something wrong)

**UPDATE** If that is what your doctors and nurses told you, then you should really follow their instructions. They know your medical history better than any of us and are in a better position to give you the best advise possible. You should listen to them.

The bleeding will stop when your body is ready. Everyone is different. Mine stopped 1 month after it was inserted. I had sex about 3 wks after inserted. You can check for the strings whenever you feel like it. They could still be tucked behind your cervix so you may not feel them. Try again after a week or so. ALSO, I was told to look in the toilet after I go to the bathroom so see if it falls out - I know this sounds wierd like wouldnt you know if it came out but i guess some dont.
My bf says he can feel ths strings every once in a while. I need to go have them trimmed. He says they hurt pretty bad.

OK I have Mirena so some answers may be different for you.

Exercise now.
I had spotting for many months after insertion.
Sex I was allowed the day I had it inserted.
Strings........I was constantly checking the strings at first because I had a fear of it falling out. Give it about 4 weeks....then check it once a month.
