Their personalities. They were different, but they got on fine for quite a while.

In the end, rock n' roll might only be remembered as a music style performed by a group called "The Beatles." Rock n' Roll is only 50 years old and it is losing in popularity every year. Soon, only those in senior citizen nursing homes will be listening to rock. And the Beatles are a big part of that music history.

It's extremely rare that musical artists remain consistent. The Beatles stand above and beyond because every album they put out had some level of appeal and definable artistic quality. They grew as artists as they grew as human beings, but the extent of their talent was omnipresent. This is most evident in the fact that no two Beatles' songs sound the same. While their style may have been distinctive, it was never monotonous.

They, although quite sloppy in many of their recordings, had a very good bead on expert song craftsmanship. The trail they blazed as writer/performers, broke the mold of performers who until them, were made to record and play songs written by others as that was the standard in the music biz.

Like Lynnes' answer, I like everything about them. Plus the fact that they wrote the greatest rock 'n roll song of all time: Hey Jude.
