All of these answers are realy good, here is some advice from a parts clerk. if posable bring in the old part with you to match up with the new part. sometimes the new part is desinged to fit many applications instead of vehicle specs like the oem (original equipment manufacured) part on your car now. A $200 core charge means the manufacturer is low on that part and they need resupplied badly. as for warantees, rebuilt parts like the starter i just baught yesterrday cary lfe time warantees and i suggest always getting the life time waranteed part so you will never have to buy a new one. Ford only offered a one year warantee for the same starter that was brand new instead of rebuilt.

You will have to pay the $600 and get $200 when you return the old part. The core charge is used to keep a supply of rebuilt parts in stock so that you are not having to buy a factory built part each and every time. The rebuilt parts are good but will not carry the same warranty as factory built.

When you buy the part, it will be $600. When you put the part on your car, you take the old part, or the core, back, and they will give you 200.

You will pay $600 and get $200 back if the part is coreable. It is like a metal recycle fee.

The way it's stated looks like it's a $600 total outlay -- then you get the $200 back when you bring them the old part.
