I'd help my MRO flood the state capitol with petitions and letters. The same group keeps us aware of how each representaive is voting. I'd carry that knowledge to the polls.
We just had "Legislative Day", in my state. The capitol was covered with riders going to see thier reps in person and urging them to support bills we support ( and vice versa).

I think a lot of people forget (never understand in the first place?) that riding a motorcycle and driving a car are PRIVLIDGES. Meaning, that it's something we're Allowed to do, and that allowance can easily be removed.

Anyway, I'd do what I could locally (my town/county) and regionally (state) to make as much noise as possible to legislators and lawmakers that they're seriously alienaiting voters. Politicians want to keep their jobs (usually) and will listen to any majority.... so it's down to hopeing that there would be a majoirty of the voting public that would stand up on the issue. Though it'd be a fairly easy sell (I suspect) to get ALL private people who use the roads on board, because it's a Small step from banning motorcycles, to banning trucks, SUVs and all cars everywhere.

Not a very realistic thing to happen (on the state/federal level) IMHO, but it's happened with alarming frequency on private property, like apartment complexes, homeowners associations, restaurant parking lots, etc...

There have been several recent incidents in the USA where cities and states have tried to ban motorcycles from public streets for a variety of reasons... Mostly due to excessive noise complaints or reckless operation created by a few anti-social types.

Your rights as a law-abiding citizen who just happens to enjoy riding motorcycles are definitely in jeopardy in some cities and states. You should write or telephone your local and state elected officials and let them know how you feel about impending legislation. You can also join with other like-minded individuals in your area to bring political pressure against those who would restrict your rights to ride. A few national organizations are also committed to fight for your rights as a motorcycle rider.

I think that every concerned motorcycle owner or rider should join the American Motorcyclist Assn, and use their services to watch for and to fight discriminatory anti-motorcycle laws being considered for your community. Use their web site (below) to find out more about this great organization

The major influence behind such a law would be insurance companies. They want all motorcycles off the road. Most companies do not like to insure motorcycles and it costs them lots of money when one of their clients runs over a bike (89% of bike accidents are the fault of car drivers) This is the reason the companies back mandatory helmet laws. New motorcycle registrations drop dramatically when a state enacts a helmet law.

In the UK they've made us wear helmets all the time, but that doesn't mean we do. They have introduced a system of only allowing us to fit factory built parts, but how do they know where our bits were made. We often make our own parts. They also try to stop some of us entering other countries because of membership to certain clubs, but we get in sometimes. If you can't do it legally you got to do it anyway. But then I'm a 1%er so I suppose you'd expect the same answer from others in my position.

I would contact my elected representatives and notify them that if they supported the bill, I could not and would not support their re-election. I would write letters to the editor of every papaer in town. I would blog about it. I would contact every motorcycle manufactureer or retailer, and all the riders' clubs, to help lobby against the law, except these groups would already have heard about it before I told them.

this type of bill would never see the light of day, admit it. now i do have to admit that something should be done about the pocket bikes. if u thought that regular bikes are hard to see, try a pocket rocket. especially if/when they dart out of nowhere within 'danger close' of ur front bumper, and u hope to god u dont redecorate his a-ss with a tire mark.

what i would support is....stronger laws on drunk/impared driving, reckless riding, stunt riding in the streets, pipes loud enough to be heard 1/2 mile away, and a ban on anyone getting a sportbike over 500cc's if they dont have at least 1 year in on a 250 or a 500cc bike....only reason is, so they have a better chance of staying alive.

Anything and everything I could. Simple as that.

The only reason there is a helmet law in NH (under 18) is Federal funding.

A regular old motorcylce? Illegal on the streets? Fortunately, I don't see this happening (especially in these days of exorbitant gas prices) so I'm not even going to strain my brain to come up with something. Right now, I just can't wait till it's warm again so Wednesdays can revert back to Bike Night!
